Race 1. The Hawea River Track – Albert Town to Lake Hawea with 5km, 10km and half
marathon options.

The stunning riverside track is over easy country and links Lake Hawea township to Albert Town. The start and finish lines are on the opposite side of the swing bridge to the parking area. All races form a loop around the DOC Butterfields Reserve along the old Hawea River channel before heading out on the Hawea River Track. The track is well maintained although uneven underfoot in places and travels through kanuka groves, woodland and along river terraces. The Half Marathon will cross Camphill Road and traffic management will be in place although caution is advised when crossing.

Race 2. The Clutha River Track – Albert Town to Luggate 13km

The track starts at the Cardrona River Mouth reserve and winds along the Clutha River/Mata-Au to historic Reko’s Point Conservation Area near Luggate. A fascinating feature is the network of gold mining workings including an historic hut from the 1870s. Close to the start is a footbridge that crosses the Cardrona River which may cause slight congestion before the track widens through woodland. A steep climb takes competitiors to an exposed area of the track through the Bluffs before undulating alongside the Clutha River to the finish line near Luggate.

Race 3. Outlet Track – Beacon Point Return – 2km, 5km or 13km options

The start and finish line area area at the Hikuwai Reserve at the start of the Outlet Track in Albert Town with the track heading out of the reserve and up Gunn Road before turning right, over the stile and back through the manuka fringed track before joining  the Outlet Track and heading towards town along the mighty Clutha River. The Outlet Track travels along the river bank with the Clutha’s crystal clear waters running beside and an occasional sighting of trout. This is a spectacular run in April with the brilliant reds and golds of the poplar trees. The turnaround points are staggered along the track where athletes will return to the finish line along the Outlet Track. The 13km race will travel to Beacon Point beach and return.

Race 4. Glendhu Bay/Waterfall Creek Track – Glendhu Bay to Wanaka approx 14.1km

From Glendhu Bay the track hugs the shoreline of Lake Wanaka through kanuka and past Damper Bay as it travels towards the township and includes a couple of challenging climbs. This section of the track is on undulating terraces above Lake Wanaka with spectacular views in all directions. The track is exposed in places and care should be taken at all times. From Waterfall Creek the trail flattens out and passes alongside Rippon Vineyard and Edgewater Resort, through Wanaka Station Park to the west end of Roy’s Bay and the finish line. A 5km race will also be staged with the start point at Roy’s Bay travelling to Waterfall Creek and return.

The Riverrun Trail Series is designed to encourage people to stay fit and healthy throughout the year and to set personal goals. Runners and walkers can enter individual races or all four and compete for the John Pawson Trophy.

The Series is open to all competitors and has two categories; open and vet. To determine the Series winners the times for all four events will be added together.

The major cash prizes will be awarded to first male and female of both categories.

The John Pawson Trophies will be awarded to the fastest male and female competitors.

Please note in order to qualify for the Series, entrants must enter the half marathon distance in Race 1.
